thesquarerootof-1 is the product of work produced for my final interactive art degree show in 1998. On Display here is the top ten squares from the grid of seventy pieces that made up the full 'biproducts' array. My first Key objective in making the site was to produce a body of work that explored the relationship between sound and visual - specifically through linking sound to visual - shape and movement. A continuation of the reaction to the problem of representation and the instability of meaning that has driven many artists since Cézanne, the second objective of the site was to question how interactivity may address these problems by presenting the user with a direct, unmediated experience.
